Megasquirt spark driver faliure

Hi, I have had my megasquirt running and was going well. I was then adjusting some settings whilst the engine was running which caused the engine to cut ignition and stop. Doing this blew a fuse and then the engine was only getting spark on two cylinders (wasted spark, spark B was working, A wasn't)

I took off the BIP373 that was on the board and found that it had shorted through the Mica insulator.

Got a replacement BIP and went to get a mica insulator from Maplin, the guy gave me one but it did have a crack in it, i figured it would be okay.

Now it is still only running on spark B.

While I was troubleshooting what the problem was when it first broke, I did mess around with a few settings and these may have caused only spark B to be working, but I doubt it.

Anybody got any pointers?

Dave

On mine I left the red LED's installed (the end ones of the 3 on the front panel) and so these are in parallel with the BIP drivers and so tell me if the ECU is sparking. Quite a useful diagnostic.

Note the LED's have resistors in series otherwise it all goes wrong.

Yeah both LED's are flashing which is telling me that the BIP must be getting an input signal, I can try sorting it out tomorrow with my laptop and a multimeter but I hope that I haven't shorted out another BIP. I'm tempted to remove the 1st BIP from the board and set it up with external wiring just like the second one you add to see if something like a trace on the board fried.

It sounds like you know your stuff.

Have you checked the coils? Just a thought.

Well I have a basic understanding, it's just annoying me the I thought I had fixed the problem by replacing the shorted BIP but that doesn't seem to have fixed it.

I did check the coil previously, put my working spark B on each side of the coil and both worked, but I will check that tomorrow.

agreed. Silly problems like this always happen at the weekend when the sun is out!
