In-tank Fuel Pump?
Hi All
I'm struggling for space to fit my fuel pump(s) so was considering using an in-tank pump (as in the picture - Subaru Impreza I believe).
Has anybody else done this? I'm a bit concerned about how these are located - do they just sit in the fuel or should I be looking at using foam
to hold it in place?
How would I seal the wiring where it exits the tank - I'm not sure if a gland / seal would do the job.
How would I connect it all up in the tank - it seems a bit like a ship in a bottle exercise!
Manufacturers do it so there must be a way!

They screw into the end of pick-up tube, the pickup tube is part of a plate that covers an approx 50mm hole in the top the tank.

Pump
I used the original from a donor car, Alfa 164. It also has the fuel level sender.

I concur having used one myself.
When I knocked a bespoke tank up I got the EFI pump from a classic range rover, plenty about for £10 and the tube length is relatively long.
You need to get the pump as low in the tank as you can so a top loader is best.

Thanks guys - much appreciated!
I'm thinking of getting a new tank made up so all I need is a simple bracket made inside to hold the pump, possibly in a swirl pot, and a
blanking cap for access to it.
On the other hand, I've just created more room for an external pump by putting the battery under my knees - where it was supposed to go in the
first place!
