Megatune and Vista Ultimate?

Hi guys!

Have any of you tried to run Megatune on a Windows Vista?

As i will be putting my MS in the car this weekend I need to use my laptop which has Vista on it.
To make things worse i don't have any serial port on it so i will be forced to use an USB-Serial converter. I have use this converter on my desktop (XP) and it has worked ok. I seem like lot of things can go wrong here.

pessimist?? Me?? no........

Sorry for the hijack but you guys running Vista... are you not experiencing problems running some types of software? i.e. NERO

I installed Vista Ultimate the other week and found so many problems with the software that I prefer to use, I ended up re-installing XP.

It looks swish and stuff but it is so resource hungry i.e. RAM and VideoRAM that I found XP quicker and more stable...

Any thoughts?

Steve

I totally agree with you.

But as an IT-pro i'm forced to run the latest software. If i had to do somtehing important with my pc i would use XP.

With all updates and all new drivers vista is getting better and better by the day.
However it's a long way to go before vista is nearly as good as XP SP2.

Yep, agree with all of that, I'm forced to as well or I wouldn't (not yet anyway) as it is suprising, considering the amount of time software providers have had to prepare, how poor the compatability of some software is (and from some big companies as well).
And as steve says, it places more demands on system resources than XP, (although I do seem to remember saying the same thing about 98 - 2000 ) without giving that much better a user experience IMO

Cheers

Yup the major problem with Vista.. or the Drivers and programs provided for it seem to be in the codeing.

For a few you can edit them to accept vista.
But alot seem to have a line that in effect says "if software version not Me,Xp, Xpsp1, XPMCE etc do not install" so they won't run on older Pc's or other platforms.
As Vista isin't included in this exception list programs will not install.

Vista does have some kind of compatability shell to run these programs under but i've never got it to work!.
Its the small really annoying things you just want to pop on and use that never work Like Nokia Data suite and Sony Ericson etc.

And Vista 64 bit is even worse!

I too have an upto date CPU and lots of memory on my PC but doing the work I do... Video Editing Vista was taking 25% of my resources without doing encoding etc. I got NERO 7 to work but the latest version 7.6+ have taken DVD writing off it is getting a slating! As 6.6 will not run properly (even with the patch) on Vista I was pretty much forced to go back to XP SP2 Corporate.
I may go back to Vista at a later date but as of now I will steer well clear until they get the problems sorted out...

If I have to do something really important I use 2000 (cue someone popping up to say if they have to do something really really important they use linux).

I'm currently waiting for a PCMCIA serial card to arrive that i've ordered from eBay, only cost about £12 delivered and they're supposedly more hassle free than the average USB converter (although MS seems to have become settled with USB converters i've got a few old serial devices at work that I need to fiddle on). Will see how that gets on with MS on my vista laptop when it arrives

I had no luck with Vista and the usb-serial converter.

Now i got the winter bug (sick as a dog). So the car has to wait.

I use 2000 all the time, I haven't "upgraded" yet. I don't really like xp and vista looks an even worse prospect. If it wasn't for all the programmes I'm used to I would use Ubuntu.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

It seems like i can't compile a new firmware file on Vista. All seems to go well but it does not create or update the s19 file. I have tried both Easytherm and compile.bat
However, it works fine on my XP (desktop)

Might be worth to know
