Megajolt still running bad

Following on from THIS thread, my car is still running badly, I feel i may have been a bit premature with giving the Megajolt the all clear.

This Morning when i put the laptop on this morning the car is running in limp home mode, with no rpm shown on the laptop and no advance of ignition.

I can get a RPM reading from the Edis via the tacho in the dash as it wired up to the Edis,
I've also con checked the Pip and Saw line between the Edis and megajolt, I've no access to an oscilloscope to check the output of the Edis.

So where next, is there a simpler way of checking the Edis output? (i've the basic automotive multimeter) or has the megjolt died somewhere along the way.

All answers and I mean ALL, greatly apperciated. God help me when i stick a megsquirted zetec in there.

ATB Dan.

Forgot to add that the Megjolt is seeing the TPS signal from the sensor as i can calibrate it and see it advance in relation to foot/throttle movement.

The CPS can be checked with a multimeter on Continuity, if you turn the crank by hand (or with a bloody big spanner lol) it should beep as the teeth pass.

Although without a CPS signal I doubt it would run at all, as it would have no reference as when to spark even in limp home mode.

Check all the pins are in the Megajolt connector are at the same level inside, as we had a couple that had pushed some of the way out and weren't making contact anymore.

Maybe try putting a multimeter between the Megajolt Rev counter output and earth, see if its giving some kind of voltage/signal as to if its responding

The CPS is working find as i've just set the idle using the tacho in the dash.

The Megajolt rev counter and earth is good i'll try it after the weekend.

Cheers Dan.

I'm pretty sure the PIP and SAW shielded wires between the EDIS module and the Megajolt show voltage on them as well when its communicating, as we've had the rev couter on a Triumph Spitfire powered by them.

That may show you which way the signal is going or missing from.
From what I understand 1 (either pip or saw) is a signal From EDIS to Megajolt requesting how much advance and the other is the signal back saying how much advance to give.

I had similar symptons with my megajolt set up initially. Also just running on limp home mode and nothing moving on lap top dials etc. Simple fix in the end. I hadn`t earthed the megajolt unit itself! Stupid mistake but we all make them. Might be worth checking you`ve done this? cheers, Nick

Since the engine runs in limp home mode it would suggest that the crank position sensor is working fine.

The fact that you arn't showing any RPM on the laptop would make me think that the MJ isn't receiving the PIP signal from the EDIS.

If it was a problem with the SAW (output from MJ) then the laptop tacho and advance displays would appear to be working but without actually changing the advance.

This sounds correct to me also, the Megajolt seems to be working in that it connects to the PC and allows the TPS to be calibrated but needs to see the PIP signal from the edis to actually do anything.
I would check the wiring carefuly especially the pins in the Molex connector as suggested, it would also be worth changing the edis if you have a spare.
If you cannot sort it Dan then you are welcome to put it in the post to me and I can put it on my test rig if necessary.

I have just recieved the megajolt , I had to pick it up from the post office as I missed the postman. I have it on my test rig and it is showing the ignition map and tha revs, advance and tps value correctly it also gives the shift light and rev limiter outputs as programmed. It is also possible to edit the map and settings which suggests the procesor etc is working correctly.
I cant easily put a scope on it until next week but it appears to be fully working to me.
Do you want to double check your wiring and if you still cant find any faults the it may be worth trying another edis unit.
I can post it back on Saturday or am happy to double check it with a scope but cant do so until next early next.
Paul.

Cheers for checking it Paul, please post it back Sat if you would.
I picked up a spare Edis unit yesterday on the off chance that was the problem.

Megajolt still running bad, now with idoit!

Snippy wins for pointing out the most basic facts,

Fixed the megajolt by wiring it up correctly, none of my wiring had failed and all the connectors in both plugs were good.
All the shielded wires were earthed to pin 7, BUT pin 7 wasn't connected to earth

I suppose it would have been found earlier if the megajolt hadn't been working at all.

ATB Dan and thanks for all your help.
