megapain

Hi Chaps,

I have now been trying to get my megasquirt working, removed it a couple of years ago and it was okay, but its not talking to me anymore.

I have powered up and jumped pins 12 & 13 on the main processor board so have good comms through the max232cpe chip, but when I install the expensive chap, nothing.

Its strange because it still seems to work, when I power up the fuel pump LED lights for 5 seconds.

So what the general opinion?

Processor screwed? if so can anyone please test and prove for me for beer tokens or is it easier to just buy another chip and swap out.

What do you think?

nb/ I am powering up with nothing connected other than the serial lead so no sensors, injectors or anythng else. Would these need to be installed to get feedback?

Cheers Mark

Have you got the correct straight through serial lead and correct baud rate settings in the coms window?

I,m afraid so, by powering up with the CPU out I prove the in/out on the max232 chip, which then go across to the main board so my lead is good.

I was trying 9600 8 1 none, wondering if I should have a go with 115000 8 1 none now but its an early one, built maybe 5 years ago now when v2.2 was the latest anf greatest.

I have never been able to get Megatune to talk to my MS, try Megatunix instead. IMHO it's a better program anyway and solved my comms issues instantly.

Are you using a direct serial port connection or a USB converter?

9600 is the correct rate for normal megasquirt use , i think the latest version can use 115000.

Direct serial, if I run the megatune verify port dos thing that also fails.

I do remember having trouble in the past so will have a go with tunix tomorrow.

I had the same probs and Megatunix sorted no bother.

I even changed my MAX-232 and still couldn't get Megatune to go.

If you're still stuck on Fri I could bring my laptop round and have a go - I've got both megatunix and megatune installed and a cable that I know works...

AFAIK I don't think you have to have any sensors connected to get sense out of it. Have you tried reflashing the firmware - I think I had a problem connecting once before I did that.

Thanks for the offer Tom, I am going to have a go with Tunix now, then followed by flashing the firmware and see how it goes.

Megatunix, panic over its all good.

I also found hyperterminal to be a waste of time, downloaded tera term and I can now get characters echoed back so flashed the CPU to be on the safe side.

Now just got to build the inlet manifold, swirl pot intercooler and all that other good stuff.

Many thanks for the help

Regards Mark
