How good is Megajolt vs Megasquirt?

How good is the megajolt and megaquirt systems for Ford Zetec engines ?
which is the better?

Megajolt will only do ignition. Megasquirt does fuel injection and optionally ignition (plus other things).

If you want to run the stock fuel injection or fit bike throttle bodies, Megasquirt is the way to go. If you want to fit carbs then Megajolt is one way to go. Going Megasquirt will give you the ability to upgrade to throttle bodies later.

Technically, Megasquirt is a much more sophisticated piece of hardware with far more possibilities.

Yes you can do ignition only with Megasquirt. I'm not sure the exact set up procedure (I presume you just set the fuel table to 0 for all values).

Surely it doesnt matter what you have in the fuel table as there will be no injectors connected??

Megasquirt controls fuel injection as well as ignition, which will allow you to fit throttle bodies and EFI later on, so buying a V3 will future proof your car somewhat.

Megajolt is restricted to ignition management only.

It took me ages to get the information i have on Megasquirt, and to identify what i wanted. Look on the www.msefi.com website for info.

FYI; I have megasquirt at the moment and it doesn't control fuel or sparks!

It makes a good cheap datalogger, as it talks to the AFR, RPM, temps, MAP, TPS (although I don't have one!). One day it might be allowed to look after fuel, once I trust it.

The other things to consider are that megajolt is much cheaper than megasquirt, and much simpler to operate.

I'm not trying to do MS down - it's just that there's a lot to learn if all you want is ignition management. Also, ignition management is an add-on for MS, so it means extra complication.

Now, if you KNOW that fuel injection is going to happen in the near future then MS is an option. However, if you start with MJ and change to MS, then the MJ unit has a resale value so it wouldn't be a total waste of money.

I have a Megasquirt V3 with four spark outputs running ignition only using COP coils.
As previously stated it gives relatively easy upgrade to injection at a later date and will support lambda sensing, traction control etc. and can even support variable valve timing systems.
It doesn't matter what values you have in the fuel table when running ignition only. My unit thinks it is controlling fuel as well as sparks.
