Some progress today but tank still leaking
Its all beginning to come together now
I brought some stuff (cant remember what it was called) from halfrauds on my way to college this morning which said 'Seals... and fuel
tanks'. Popped home and put a little around the banjo bolt threads where the tank was leaking. Put the flat battery on charge and went to
college.
Was let home early, thought 4 hours on the charger would be enough so decided to try and start the car. Fuel in, checked there were no leaks, there
weren't, fitted battery, checked for leaks again, not a drop. Turned the key and pushed the start button and it fired (yaaaay!) but didnt start
(but there was lots of smoke from the exhaust).
Thought id try again but the battery had gone flat (obviously 4 hours on a 40yo charger isnt enough ).
Then the phone rang and i went to answer it, came back out to be greeted by the smell of petrol
The garage floor was covered in the stuff (didnt realise i had put so much in the tank).
Drained the tank and let it dry. Mixed up some more of the leak fixer stuff and put loads on the threads. Filled the tank with water and there was a
small drip so put some more round the banjo and it has stopped leaking but i havnt tried it with petrol yet (im abit afraid to now )
Still im pleased with what i have done today and if i get home early enough tomorrow, il put it all back together and try again (battery is staying on
charge overnight )
How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

Might be too late now, but you should have fixed it properly (if its a new tank) ie welded. That leak fix stuff will never be a proper repair. I just
used a old master cylinder as a tiny fuel tank for now.

Its not a new tank. The guy who had it before me obviously tried to add an outlet at the bottom but didnt do it very well and the bolt didnt fit very
well.

ah, ok, i was thinking it was one you just made. i'd suggest finding something smaller and temporary for now (like my old master cylinder
resevoir. actually, that might have been brand new actually lol ah well)
would something like a lawn mower tank work for now? just to get it running, and get a less leaky tank later?
