Throttle bodies
Hi all,
some may have seen other threads about my engine swap ect anyway im going for bike throttle bodies and selling my webber's
i have got a st170 inlet manifold and am after some bike TB's .
Most seem to use Suzuki GSXR 1000 OR 750 throttle bodies, i was after a set of 750 ones but have been unable to find any in the uk at a good price
i wanted gsxr ones as all guides on adapting throttle bodies seem to be based on gsxr ones
I have found a set of really clean yamaha R1 throttle bodies (the type that can be re spaced ) for £90 Seems a real good price BUT !!!
are these as simple to modify as the gsxr ones ?
Do gsxr ones offer something these don't hence the popularity of them ?
Thanks

the things that are modified from all the gixxers that i've researched are:
throttle bodies respaced easily with a length of threaded bar.
surplus butterflies removed if extra set of butteflies used.
extra holes for said butterflies filled with chemical metal
throttle linkages extended as the gaps between them have now been extended
if i was feeling brave i'd say the above should be universal.

The Suzuki one's are the most popular because they are the easiest to split, you can use GSXR 600,750,1000 and Hayabusa.
The 750, 1000 and Hayabusa are all pretty much the same. The Hayabusa ones don't have an upper butterfly so are slightly easier.
I imported mine from Canada as they were cheaper. Here's some pics. I didn't go the Zetec route in the end I used a Duratec motor but
still used the ITB's on a different manifold.
They are very easily spaced using 12mm ally tube, 20mm ally strip and 5mm screwed rod all available from B&Q, cost peanuts to do.

Didn't pay any charges presumably because they were second hand parts
Import taxes are basically VAT @20% and the post office add on a handling charge of around 10-15 pounds.
I have just imported a Megasquirt kit from DIYAutotune the duty was as above.

Seems you can get throttle bodies for 100 or less in US and there easy to find
Would you get 750's or 1000's or does it not make much odds ?
Glad you told me this as i also planned on getting a megasquirt from Us so i can work out ovrall cost after taxes
