VR sensor wiring for a VX XE engine

Hello,

In my engine bay I have organised the wiring so that as many of the cables as possible are hidden. However, as I come to wiring the original VR senor into the relay board for my MSnSE I realise that I do not have any idea which wire is which. I have a wire that acts as a cable shield which I will wire to ground. Then there are two more which I was going to wire up with one going to ground and the other going to the tach input on the MSnSE. Does it matter which one goes to ground/signal input?

I hope that makes sense.

Regards
Steve

It does matter, but I'm afraid I can't tell you which is which. There's some info in the Megamanual somewhere about working out the polarity using an analogue multimeter (seeing which way the needle swings when you pull a steel object away from the sensor).

The easiest thing to do is to try it as it is, if theres no RPM reading in MT when cranking or if the rpm reading goes mental then swap the wires around and re try it,
