CAR NOT STARTING WHEN TEMPERATURE IS VERY COLD
Dear members,
am hoping to find a solution to my cars problem which also has become my problem. My mr2 can not start in the mornings when the temperature is cold
infact i have to lock it in a garage or wait until weather improves for it to start. as i need to go to work in the mornings am looking for
solutions.

Battery? My old Landy had starting issues when it was cold.
Is it turning over?

Could it be anything to do with the choke not working. Is it automatic choke?

My first thought was the choke. Unless it is a new one with fuel injection.

If you actually expect a helpful answer I think you really need to give us some more info. Its almost impossible to diagnose a problem over the
internet when all we know is that it doesn't start.

my old mk1 mr2 had auto choke. can't remember if it was injection though?

What do you mean by not start ? -- will it not turn over ? or not fire up ?
If it turns over but dosen't start assuming the plugs are in good condition and properly gapped then the coolant temperature sensor and/or air
inlet senor could be u/s.
If dosen't turn over or turns over very slowy on the starter it might well be the battery has a dead cell but the whole starting and charging
systems would need some basic checks and tsts before condeming it.

All MR2's are fuel injected.
Could be the water temp sensor or similar not sensing that its freezing and so not richening the mixture to compensate? They are sometimes two water
temp sensors so watch out for that when changing them - one for the water temp gauge and another one that the ECU uses.
You shouldn't need to do it but does pressing the accelerator make it easier to start?

Yeah I wouldn't mind but WTF does this have to do with Locosts or kit cars??? lol.
Maybe you should join an MR2 site and ask them? Just a thought!!!!

This could be interesting for Toyota engined locost owners, so be a bit nicer guys.
So back to MR2 ... if it is a 3S-GE model, I think the throttle body has a cold start injector. If the Engine runs fine ones it is warm, I would rule
out the temperature sensors, and suspect a faulty cold start injector.

Not trying to be rude, but this guy hasn't even been bothered to tell us what his car is apart from its an MR2. Narrow it down a little pal,
they've been gracing the roads of britain for over 20 years.
As for telling us as much as 'It doesn't run, well it turns over'. I'm pretty sure Rick Waller turns over at night but it
doens't mean he gets up and runs first thing in the morning.
All of this on a first post too, Now I'm normally a pretty relaxed guy but this sort of thing really winds me up. Its not even a freekin kit
car. I don't even know why I took the time and effort to write this rant but now I have I'm going to post it.
As far as I'm concerned this bloke can get knotted!
