Don't even joke about those. They last 5 minutes and burn a hole in your wallet it takes many times longer to refill!
If disfunction is a function, then I must be some kind of genius.

You should weld a bit faster, 3 years are you expecting a problem or two?

You rent the bottles? What happened to just replacing it with a full one like you do with gas?

This is how BOC and Air Products work. You have to rent the bottle as well as pay for the refills

Can you own the bottle, if you do a lot of work or do they screw you forever with it? Don't think I'd want to be constantly paying for
something I'm not using (while I don't have time/inclanation for the build!)

Not that I'm aware of. I know some smaller firms don't work this way, but they tend to be regional, and there are none in my region.
There might be in yours, though. There was a trhead about this recently, but I can't remember the title

They also charge you delivery, and if you collect it yourself, you get a collection charge. I am surprised they don't charge for parking and to
rent the pen you sign the collection slip with.
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

You guys are getting hosed
I bought a new cylinder about that size for about $200Cdn and refills are $80.
You can rent bottles here too but it's not worth it unless you are using them in a business and need them delivered often.
Can see my cylinder behind the engine hoist here:

EDIT: thats $80 for 75% argon mix which should be more than straight CO2

I'm in California so there's a big regional difference, but I bought my bottles and never pay anything other than for gas. Granted they
give me a different tank each time I go in but there's no rent. As I recall they said they rented them years ago but no longer do. That stopped
before I bought mine back in 1997 or so.
FWIW, a 125 cu. ft. tank refill of 100% Argon runs US$35-45.

Air Liquide
Buying option was more expensive.
