Megasquirt Logging

I've been on the megaquirt forum trying to find out if you can log wirelessly to a Windows Mobile phone but to no avail.

Anybody know if this can be done.

I have a bluetooth adapter for megasquirt but lacking the software for the phone

why don't you just use a seriel-usb cable provided & connect to a laptop on the passenger seat?

Logging the raw data from the Megasquirt is very easy if you can write the software for your phone.

You transmit the character 'A' to the Megasquirt unit, and the Megasquirt returns the realtime variables (146 bytes worth for ms2extra RC1).

Using the ini file (the top of the OutputChannels section), you can translate the raw data into meaning numbers later on a PC.

get a 240v power converter for the car (£15 from halfrauds),they plug into the cigarette lighter socket,

i wired in a perminant 12v feed to a cigarette lighter socket and the pluged the converter into it, that way you never loose power to the laptop, then just plug the laptop in and your away, once the laptop is datalogging tuck it away in the footwell and the wind can't get to it or you could take someone out with you to hold the laptop.

i did download a program called pocketdaq. but haven't managed to get it to talk to the ecu.

the 'A' does it need to be a capital letter?

Yes.

I think 'a' was used for something on MS2 (something to do with CAN), but isn't any longer. Looking at the assembly code, 'a' DOES seem to do something, but I don't have enough knowledge of assembly to say what.

EDIT: it looks like 'a' could be used for transmitted the realtime variables from a second MS unit through the CAN bus. It probably won't return anything just by sending 'a' as it's waiting for you to send the CAN ID.

Get a Palm pda from ebay for about £10 and install palm log on it. I do all my dataloging this way with it mounted on the dash so as it also acts as a display of all the various parameters whilst driving.

does the palm need a cable and if so what sort?, can you import the logs into megalog viewer?

There is PocketTune, but development stopped on it several years ago so I don't know if it will work with the latest MS firmware. Source is available though if you fancy improving it.

Yes you need an older palm with a serial connection , you log to it then download in megalog viewer in burst mode , the log then can be opened as normal using megalog viewer.Theres lots of info on the main megasquirt site about which models work best.
