Fuel Pump Orientation

Just bought one of these for a bike carb project. It's for a Yam Fazer 600 (apparently):

Does anyone know if this type of pump is sensitive to which way up it's fitted? I was thinking of fitting it with the inlet/outlet upwards.

I had my ZX6 pump fitted vertially in the engine bay and it was fine for ages, but then started playing up.

Not sure if it was just leaking air or didn't like the position it was in. I've since moved it to a horizontal position near to the tank and it has been fine since.

When I ran M/Cycle carbs and Pinto I ran mine horizontally
Just put another M/cycle low pressure pump in boot to feed a swirl pot for my throttle bods and again have chosen to mount it horizontally (as pictured) as it was convenient

I asked on a M/cycle forum which way the pump I was using was mounted originally on the bike...and it was horizontally mounted

...not that it means it won't work in any other orientation or will have a short life etc if mounted differently

Regards
Rob
