Thicky MS question - trigger wheel sensor

Hi all,

I am trying to sort the engine bay wiring and have been using the extraEFI wiring diagrams. However one (of the many....) bits I dont understand is the 'screen' wiring for the trigger wheel sensor. My cable from the sensor has only 2 wires.......... Am comfused!! Am I missing something fundamental? I suspect that I probably am and if so what is it and how do I resolve it?

Cheers

Chris

The screen of the cable is an outer casing made of a braded tinned copper and this is earthed to prevent interference i.e. screened

So do i need to expose some of this earth braiding, crimp it to a regular bit of cabling and wire it into the nearest earth stud?

Looking at the ExtraEFI drawing looks like its connected/earthed at pin 7

Which drawing are you looking at?

Sorry - yeah your right - pin 7. My last comment was more a question of principle. i.e. cutting into the sheath of the cable and generating an earth cable from it.

generally yes screened cable the screen goes to earth, sleeve the braid and put a crimp on bolt to earth

generally screened cable like that should be earthed at one end.

Otherwise a you can get a potential difference across the screen.

ah, i was seeking clarification on this too.

So:

the two wires leave the VR sensor and connect ASAP to a dual core shielded cable, this then travels the length of the engine bay to the EDIS module. At the module the cores leave the shielding to attach to the relevant pins. The shielding itself is then soldered to some normal wire which attaches to pin 7.

The pip + saw signal cables then follow a similar route to the MS/MJ

thats it in a nut shell?
