Megasquirt and ford idle valve volts
Hi,
I am still looking at the idle valve on my ford efi manifold.
When I hook up a voltmeter to it I am seeing 5.27v at the valve.
is this correct - any one any idea what it should be.
Thanks
Frank

Is that with the engine at idle?
The ecu pulses the idle valve on and off very quickly between 1,000 and 10,000 times a second.
The amount on and off (known as the duty cycle) controls how much the valve is open, at 5.27 volts the duty cycle is about 30 - 40%, which sounds
about right to maintain an idle. Your meter is avering the voltage (on it will be 14v, off it will be 0v accross the valve.

Most ecus, megasquirt i think is included keeps the idle valve at a value close normal idle value.
If you listen very closely to the valve you will hear a slight buzzing sound.
If you take the valve off you may see it move from fully closed to slightly open when the ignition is turned on.
Some valves do have a tendency to gunge up- waht problems are you haveing, no idle?
Thanks
