quick sneek peek at some progress
this is just a quicky to say im back with a bee in my bonnet about getting this bleedin car finished! so close yet so far!!
here is a photo of where i am now-
didnt get any photos of casting the rear panel in the mould as i just wanted to get on with it. so now the rear is just sat in place while i get the
center section shaped and smoothed. hinging up the rear panel will be a bit of a pain so im putting it off as long as possible!
middle section progress
cheers,
Russ.

How do you intend to get the doors as a seperate mould out of the buck?

when ive finished smoothing and sealing the door areas ill take a mould of the general door shape and then that will be the mould for the outer skins
for the doors. i can then go ahead and chop a big hole in the plug to form the door openings.
the bit i chop out can then also be used to vacuum form the polycarbonate side windows.
the door skins can be cast and cut to size later and returned to the mould (to keep the oriinal shape) to make up the inner skins by hand using a foam
core. the inner skin being the main reinforcment to the door sctructure, otherwise it wil be all floppy!
ill make sure i take more photos as i progress! unfortunately im working around 12 hours a day but im at least at the advantage that im working from
home in the same workshop as the car is in, so i can sneek an hour here and there to get a bit done!
cheerz.

Coming on nicely Russ. I am currently involved in a similar project at the moment (a bit bigger than my Aeon) using an LS3 lump with
18"x10" wheels. Its a bit of a secret until later in the year when hopefully all will be revealed.
At the moment I am working on the gull wing doors and they are a real PITA - probably taking as long as the rest of the bodywork combined! I never did
get my Aeon's doors quite right.
Regarding your hinge for the back clamshell, you will need to get it as low and far back as possible - about where the rear number plate will go. I
can send some pics of mine which works ok if you like.
I look forward to seeing your progress

When thinking outside the box doesn't work any more, it's time to build a new box

sounds interesting, not much of a secret anymore though!
im actually hinging the rear clam from the front as there is already plenty there to bolt the hinges to, plus when lifted it is completely out of the
way, and gives some shelter if working outside!
ill be using tailgat hinges ffrom a bmw e36 which is a cantilever so will lift up as well as hinge if you like so should work perfectly.
not fully decided on the door hinges yet, was thinkiing of something similar to the ultima with rosejoints on brackets recessed ito the body to give
the correct pivot position.
cheers,
Russ.

trying to stay within the vag group on things like that and chose the 2000 model beetle rear lights, which are an oval shaped cluster with the right
curves for my body!
here is a piccy with them in place during the shping of the rear, havent had them mounted since so i hope they still fit!!
