definitely stay in one of the main hotels on the main strip.

If you are there for a week - hire a car and go and see the surrounding area - grand canyon, death vally, hoover dam etc... they are all amazing!

We have stayed in the MGM grand and the Luxor - both were great

i have been to vegas 3 times-in my opinion a 3 day visit is long enough(unless you are a keen keen gambler),a visit to hoover dam and the grand canyon is a must.i would consider 3-4 days in san diego with loads to see and do there and then a 1 hour flight to vegas to see out the week.

I stayed at the MGM for my wedding and it was great and then went back on a stag doo last year and stayed at the imperial palace, which is meant to be a dump as its just about the cheapest u can get (avoid the Stratosphere and Circus circus like the plague), but the room was clean and large if a bit dated and position was good, however little else to recommend it

Do not stay off strip if u can help it as its miles to get anywhere at the best of times and off strip is dodgy at best

Stayed in the Planet Hollywood Hotel absolutely fantastic.

The Hotel has a massive shopping Mall underneath it. Ceasars Palace is also amazing and has even more shops and Theatres inside.

You'll be blown away.

I spent a week in circus circus with the wife and 3 kids and loved everyminute of it. The inlaws have stayed in circus circus, broadwalk (b4 it was knocked down LOL)
and last time the Luxor.
They said the Luxor was the worst.
In my opinion if it had a nice bed and was clean it was good enough as spent more time out of the hotel than i did in it.
As for things to do i wished i was there for another couple of weeks, spent aprox 1hour in the whole week gambling and still didnt have enough time to check everything out.
Make sure you go to Freemont street that roof is awesome.

I've been to vegas 4 times. Try to stay in one of the better hotels on the strip.
Another tip is to buy a 24 hour Cat bus pass,
you can travel all over for $5.
Off the side from the MGM GRAND is a nice gun shop. I played with a M16 machine gun !!!
Watch out for the money off coupon books, they can save you quite a bit.
The last and most important tip: DONT walk any further down the strip than the Stratosphear hotel. mugger's paradise.
have fun

If you can get cheap flights it might pay you to try and get hotel accommodation by dealing with them direct. I used to work there a lot and had enough air miles for free flights for me and the Mrs. I phoned the Mirage and asked if they had any deals on room rates. They told me to contact their sister hotel, Treasure Island and I was able to get a fantastic room for $24.00 / night. This was a couple of years ago but you should still be able to get a good deal if you are prepared to shop around.

Not my cup of tea at all... 1 day/night was more than enough for me. I much preferred the surrounding area as mentioned above e.g. Hoover Dam, Death Valley (stayed there at the Furnace Inn!), Grand Canyon.

I used expedia and flew direct with Virgin for less than 600 quid. I prefer Vigin to BA.
I stayed at the Imperial Palace which isnt the poshest place but only really needed a bed! Its location was fantastic, centre strip perfect for evenings out on the strip. I have also stayed in the Sahara, which I found to be very nice for one of the budget hotels. Just a bit of a pain being a good walk to the other end of the strip! Although the monorail is fantastic to hop on and off at anywhere you like. Deffo visit the Gun Store (on East tropicana I think???) take plenty of money as they are not cheap! Also as said before visit the Hoover dam and grand canyon. You can just about do the canyon and back with a few hours there in one day (bout 600 mile but a nice drive via Route 66) Car hire is cheap in Vegas ( I used Virgin and cost me about 20 - 30 quid for a day)
A must is an evening at Fremont street (downtown las vegas) but do take a taxi as anything after the stratosphere is well dodgy!.
You will prob spend more than you are planning to lol. I blew the lot in 3 days.
Have fun!

have a look on the web for any shows or artists that are on while you are there, that you fancy and book it in advance if you want to watch it as you may find it full if you try and book when you get there.

Gun Shop is good fun if you like that sort of thing. Its (long) walking distance from the strip on Tropicana.

Take good walking shoes as everything is a long walk. If you stay in one of the main hotels in the centre (ish) of the strip you will have to walk a little less. It can take you 10 minutes to get from the entrance of the hotel to your room.

I'm hoping to get out to Vegas over Xmas and it'll be my fifth trip, got married out there and absolutely love it.

In terms of booking after what must be hundreds of hours of looking over the years, I always seem to end up with Expedia although I did once book with a company called Best@travel. As above, if you can just get the flights the hotels usually work out dirt cheap if you go direct. Don't worry about the slightly older hotels, you don't spend that much time in your room anyway. Last time we went we stopped at Harrah's and thought it was fine.

7 nights is a long time in Vegas but if you break it up with a trip to the Canyon that should be good.

If you can stretch to it, hire a Viper or some other such daft car, I got one for only an hour but loved it.

Jet lag tip - If it's 4am and your wide awake and wondering what to do, just get up and get on with it! It's not completely a 24 hour city but certainly in the big casinos there's not a massive difference between 3am and 3pm. I have a friend who goes and has 2 mini-days for every day so he gets up at say 6am, has an 8 hour day till 2, 4 hours sleep and back up at 6 till 2am.
