Zetec, carbs or EFI
I,m in the really early stages and still planning a lot of the project, my question is should I be looking to have my Zetec EFI or carbs? If carbs
what sort of money am I looking at for the carb set up (without engine) ?

EFI is a bit better all round performance/econnomy wise, but carbs are significantly cheaper
if it needs a cat to pass emissions that really means it needs to be EFI
will you need to get it through an IVA test ?
what age is your engine ? (pre Aug. 95 ?)
bike carbs (ZX9R / R1 or similar) = what ever you can get them for say ~£50+
DIY manifold = £ ? (I got a bogg bros one - very shinny but not very locost )
megajolt (for sparks) = $145 (us dollars)
bike fuel pump to suit carbs = ~£20
I'll let someone else cost out the EFI (I went for carbs on my pinto)

A well st up EFI system is so much better than carbs, peak power may be the same but carbs lose out on driveability

When I source my engine should I be looking to get the ECU at the same time from the same vehicle?

some folk have used the donor's ECU, but this isn't always as strait forward as you'd think (depends on the donor) - some
ECU's need 'tricked' into thinking they are still in the donor car
and you can't easily re-tune them to deal with the changes you'll need to make to the exhaust / intake...
so most folk seem to end up with an aftermarket ECU or some kind (megasquirt, omex, emerald........) and often with indavidual throttle bodies to get
the most out of the engine (bike TB's are an option)
of course if you can find a pre-August 95 engine then you shouldn't need a cat for the IVA test
