Land rover fuel pumps
Hi all,
This is kind of on a seperate tangent so I thought I would start a new topic.
Following this:
http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/post.php?action=reply&fid=9&tid=151241
Is it true that a land rover fuel pump has a built
in swirl pot and pump? Is this external?
Im really looking at the lightest and simplest method of getting about a 1L swirl pot on my car. If these are external and all in one they should be
ideal.
If not are ther any production cars that do have an external pump and swirl pump system that is good to use.
Thanks for your advice as always. You guys rule!!
Can't wait till the summer to get to some tracks and shows.

I have a land rover fuel pump.
It is not external. I had to drill a 105mm hole in the top of my fuel tank and drop it in. It does have a swirl pot with a 1 way valve in it and a
pump inside the pot. It actually required quite a lot of cutting and shutting to fit in my fuel tank as it is very shallow (just under 20cm). If your
fuel tank is >30ish cm tall, it should drop straight in.
One of the earlier golfs has an external swirl pot, i think.

You need a pump/swirl pot off a VW Golf GTi or similar. Wee plastic tank with a HP pump inside it and the filter canister strapped to the side.

Looks identical to the MGF / rover fuel pump.
I've got one floating around the garage for when i go fuel injected. My only worry is how i'll clamp it down in the tank reliably -
probably end up with something similar to the fuel filler bolts thing - but larger.

Im not too keen on the land rover one now. I was hoping it was an external one. Im not going to be cutting holes in a perfectly fine tank!
The Mk2 golf one looks interesting. The swirl pot is not round though so it may be more of a resivoir which is no good.
Anyone know the capacity of the golf one and if it is defo a swirl pot or not??
Thanks for all of your help peps.
Very much appreciated

That's the one I used in my V6 - not sure about the actual spec but it is Locost and certainly works for me
