intake trumpet shape?

Hi all.

I hope your all driving the cars and using the weather, Im not!!

I need to get an air box sorted for Striker. I have a 4age that is using the original trumpets which are quite long and have a 90deg bend, see below

This makes fitting sensible filters hard work. The filters you see disintegrated on the steering column so need replacing. An air filter just wont fit there so I need to change or rotate the trumpets. Rotating them 180deg needs more bonnet cutting away.

So, are the bends actually doing anything or can I just buy some straight ones and make a hard job easy?!

Any noise reduction?

Any ideas welcome,

Biz

Biz,

I run a 20 valve and started with parallel sided straight trumpets 115 long with foam socks, but they were way too loud for the local track.

I subsequently changed them to tapered trumpets 75mm long in a home made airbox with a flat panel foam filter. The whole lot is fed through a bonnet scoop. Much quieter and no so many hassles in the rain. Also picked up a few extra hp with the shorter ones. Cost pennies [except for the trumpets - locally sourced in Australia]

PM me your email and I'll flick you back some piccies

Anybody else have any thoughts with bends in trumpets?

I think (following some more reading) that it may reduce noise, reduce air speed and cause me problems for fitment.

I want to keep the trumpets the same length so I am thinking just to do straight ones (or maybe alittle kink).

Please post any other thoughts and ideas, all welcome!!
