Concentric cycle wings

Is there a right or wrong position
for the cycle wing relative to the tyre?

If I set mine so the wing is concentric
with the circumference of the tyre
there appears to be loads of "air" gap
under the wing.

I have MK wings and 195x50xR15 tyres.

Or is it all just personal preference
just as long as the wheel comes off
without a full dismantle session.

Cheers

Get rid of the MK cycle wings and get something that fits better. I ended up with dax cycle wings and 17" wheels to keep them concentric.

Not something I'd recommend for handling, but it does look tidy.

Even with 17" wheels, the MK cycle wings are too large a radius to mount concentric, close to the tyre, iirc.

Dont mount to close to tyre because you can pick stones up in tread of tyre and smash wings from the inside.

I've just fitted mine and it seems the MK ones are a bit crap, they look like they would fit a 17 inch wheel ok but not the 15 inch wheels supplied with the kit. Looks like i'll be replacing these at some point aswell.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Wings aren't too close to tyres just doesn't
look right not being concentric.

Not going to change tyres or wings now.

So, for the sake of aesthetics you accept a compromise in handling?
I paid a lot of money for a Lotus 340-R whose guards were as concentric as you could wish for. That fact was overridden when I went over the rumble strips at Brands and the guards, (looking lovely), contacted the tyres.
Practicallity and purpose overrides aesthetics every time.

I built my car when I was 18 and didn't really know the effect of unsprung weight. I've not yet had the funds to remedy the problem, but will soon.

Thanks for your concern though

Sounds to me like your cycle wing stays weren't stiff enough and the wings were too close to the tyre. Nothing to do with concentricity

So are there any out there that fit nicely and of good quality for 15 inch wheels ?

Mine flap around at anything above 60mph. Going to try some new stays at the same time, as mine have been repaired in the past.

I quite like the "flat top" ones, but do they really have any benefit other than looks ? Will I look a like a Caterham wannabeeee

Not cheap but the ones from Carbonmods are good , as for the wings stays I got fed up with mine breaking and just remade them in thicker gauge steel all round , in fact the plate that bolts to the hub that kept breaking was 3mm is 6mm . Have had no breakages in the last 3 years

First off, fit the cheapest wings you can find....they will fall off and get damaged. Then beef up the stays and fit some proper wings
