English diff flange size

I'm looking to replace the 3.9 diff with a 4.1 diff - what I don't know is which type of flange I've got connecting it to the drive shaft. I've tried to get a rough measurement and it is about 11cm diameter - is that a 'large' or a 'small' flange?

That's the large flange

If I bought a diff with the small flange is it difficult to change them over? Would I be better changing the drive shaft side to be small also, and if so where would I find that part?

so many questions

Not sure about changing flanges, if there is any difference in the dimension from the nut face to the face which butts against the pinion bearing then the preload on the pinion bearing will be changed. If the dimension is exactly the same then it's a case of marking the nut to the shaft and then counting the turns and putting it back exactly where it was.

To change the UJ flange depends onhow the shaft is assembled whether the joints are held in with circlips or staked (looks like punch marks round the bearing caps) in. If it's circlipped then it's an easy job, if it's staked it's a specialist job.

They can be changed easily just lock the diff up and undo the centre bolt on the flange.

I have no idea what you are talking about. I'm sure that terms such as preload and crush tube are alien to you but they are quite important in the world of english diffs.

My apologies daviep is of course correct.
I decided to swap the flange with the knowledge that I may effect the preloaded/crush tube and although daviep alluded to this in his post I should have made it clearer that, that is what I had done. This obviously could effect the life of my diff.
