Fuel Pot Return - will this work?

Hi All,

I'm planning to use a swirl pot containing the OE (bike) fuel pump which will be fed by a low pressure Facet pump located very close to the bottom of the tank, as outlined in the crap diagram below (Thanks to Procomp and MK9R for photos):

Now, my question is, will the low pressure pump be strong enough to circulate fuel from the base of the tank to the engine bay, up to the outlet of the swirl pot and back to the top of the main tank? I suspect that the return inlet on the main tank will be 400-500mm higher than the fuel pump.

Thoughts very welcome!

Cheers,

Tim

Should be mine pumps from the tank ( lift of 400mm ) to along the bottom of the floor upto the swirl pot in the engine bay and back same route to tank.

Tank is top entry with suction pipe to bottom.

Scot's do it better in Kilts.

I've got a similar set up on mine, and its worked fine for 3 years!, as long as you have a return back to tank.

No reason it shouldn't be fine Tim, Austen copied my setup on my Fury. My swirl pot ended up sitting above the fuel tank.

Cheers Bob - I have a nice spot up-front for it.

Your diagram is missing a return from the fuel rail/FPR back to the swirl pot. Is this intentional?

Stupid questions

I am considering just such a setup as the custom tank outlet is lower than the best I can obtain, l HP pump inlet. I am running a HP fuel injection system not carbs.

Questions:

1) I assume that you are alowed no height difference, at least the pump must be either the same or lower than the tank outlet? If not how much?

2) If I use a lift pump to a swirel pot I am observing you are using an electronic pump, which type?

3) What swirel pot is best cost wise?

4) I assume then I can locate the swirel pot and HP pump where I like remote from the lift pump (within reason)?
