Large exhaust can on Lotus 7 type car
I've got a 7inch exhaust can on the side of my Tiger Avon.
I've got steel straps round the can mounted on aluminium squares bolted to the car.
Can people explain or show me with pictures how they have mounted their exhausts.

My silencer form CBS has a plate mounted on the side (facing the car) with a captive nut, which allows me to screw a rubber exhaust bobbin to the
inside, I have then welded a plate onto the side of my chassis and fix the other side of the bobbin to the chassis with a nut/washer, so essentially
the bobbin is horizontal and you have silencer --> bobbin --> chassis plate:
I think I have a 5" can.

One of the issues with the bigger cans is supporting them firmly enough so that they don't move about and cause cracks in the header pipes. On
our race cars we roll a stainless half round support from sheet and weld on a support arm in the middle to bolt it to the lower chassis rail. The
rolled cup then supports the can from underneath and we secure the can with two stainless jubilee clips, one in front and one behind the centre
support
Hope that makes sense

Not too clear in the picture below, but I have a piece of 3mm steel bolted under the car and then the bobbin (as shown in Tatey's pc) is bolted
to that. The exhaust clamp then bolts to the bobbin.

I made a 3mm plate that bots underneath the chassis rail, 2x16mm dia tubes welded on, in a triangle,a 3mm plate welded on at the join, this is bolted
to the side panel, and the silencer bolted to this with a rubber bobbin. Clear as mud?

Ive got a 7.25"dia x 29.5"long titanium silencer from RaceCo fitted to my VortX. I have had it on some scales, and it is lighter than my
old 5"dia x 25" stainless silencer. 9.5lbs vs 11lbs
i welded a mounting bracket onto the endcap of the silencer. i then made a mounting plate that bolted up to the underside of the car that the silencer
bolted to. Seems to hold it in place nicely
