Car tries to stall when accelerator is pressed
hi, I have a problem I can't solve - again! Lol
Was driving ok earlier today but then starts doing this:
Standing still revving past 2500 it dies right down and stalls unless I back off the revs
If I drive then the same happens and I can't get passed 3rd gear even downhill.
Idles fine
I can barely get uphill and have to be in 1st and under about 1200 revs.
It's fuelled to 1/4 of a tank with fresh fuel.
The filter is on the pickup in the tank from what I can tell.
Plugs all seem a good colour and correct gap.
Nothing changed from last times it worked although I did have a starting issue a while back but I put in £20 of fuel earlier.
Wondering if the CAT is maybe breaking down?
It's a Sportrak.
Cheers
Time for a change!

If the cat is melting down you will get very little induction draw, the gases have nowhere to go so it stops being able to suck in fresh air.

Would that give the symptoms described?

Yes it will, it's unlikely the cat will block completely, as it melts into a blob the symptoms get worse, this happens quite quickly as well.

It sounds like a fueling issue, clogged fuel line, duff fuel pump, but first check the MAP, TPS, CTS and any other sensorsxare not disconnected.

Is it since you played with the fuel pump, tank, gauge sender and fuel lines?
Has it run properly since?

'though it might not help, I suggest disconnect the battery, and charge it overnight. ie let all the electrics reset
(aka turn it off and on again, with a freshly charged battery)

Hi, it's run fine since the fuel tank and gauge thing. Done about 100 miles since then.
I think it's the cat broken down and was going to remove it temporarily to test the running without it.
I'll blow the fuel lines through and see what there is there.
I had a similar problem many years ago with my daily minded 24v and it was cat related.
