only if you want to use the vac advance on the dizzy.
Phoned the local ramblers club today, but the bloke who answered just
went on and on.

As above you only need it to run a vac advance or a MAP sensor for the ignition
If you've not got a dizzy then it will be easier to use the TPS that comes on the carbs instead of a MAP sensor.
But if you want to run either a vac advance or a MAP sensor then you'll need a take off point on each branch of the manifold, then join these
together in a small chamber and the run a line from this to the sensor / dizzy.
The evens out the pulses you get in the vac lines from the each cylinder which can upset ignition systems
If you do fit a take off on each cylinder they can also be used for balancing the carbs

Just blank them off so you can use them for balancing.
