Which sensors do I REALLY need for Megasquirt?
Hi there, setup is silvertop zetec, MT75, M45 Eaton supercharger.
So which sensors and input do I really need?
I am planning to have: TPS, MAP, Coolant temp, Wideband lambda.
Do I really need MAT/IAT (air temp)?
I want to be able to do some DIY tuning and eventually get it on a rolling road. I know more sensors make tuning easier, but I'm locost and I
want to get the car back on the road! I can do some more fancy stuff later on, just want to 'good solid basics'.

I've an ms3 and use
MAP for initial reading only as I'm using throttle bodies on an alpha-n map, TPS, inlet air temp (corrects fuelling with higher temps), coolant
temp (needed for warm up enrichment), wideband lc1 (used for tuning, never used it for closed loop), don't forget your crank sensor as well.
I've set my own resistance curves for the temp senders and not used the standard Ms sensors.
Cheers

I have MS2 with Jenveys
LC1 wideband
TPS
Coolant
Air temp
Crank sensor.
Throttle bodies don't need MAP as previously said and with MS2 the sensor is built into the controller and reads atmospheric pressure.
Duratec Engine is fitted, MS2 Extra V3 is assembled and tested, engine running, car now built. IVA passed 26/02/2016

Ok thanks for that.
So where do I put the IAT?
Before supercharger
After supercharger
After inter cooler
Inside plenum?
I would guess the most accurate is plenum, just before it goes into the engine?!

Iat, I would put that in the plenum. If you put it before the charger it won't see what temps the charger increases it by.

iat sensor I put mine in the intercooler out pipe as there was a convenient point there and its only a few inches from the main T/B and plenum (mx5
though)
remember we are not mad just creatively insane !!!!!

As it is to be rolling roaded you can lose the wideband which will be £150 off.
I run TPS, IAT, Coolant with MAP inside the MS I
Car uses the bike engine module for sparks, if you are running sparks from the MS then you will need a crank sensor and trigger wheel.

You will need the LC1 if you intend to tune it yourself or use autotune in tuner studio.

Minimum I would go with would be
IAT
CLT
TPS
MAP
Wideband
Crank Position
YOu can run without TPS but for the sake of an extra 3 wires and the sensor it gives you more options (and datalogs) in the future.
