ECU

Can anyone recommend what Ecu to use on a Zetec?
Omex?
Emerald?
Alpha?
Any good or bad stories would be good.

if your not dead set on using carbs, why n ot go for a megasquirt n edis setup??, don't reckon the cost would be much different with what you'd pay for a decent set of webbers.

As already mentioned the Megajolt is a cheap option that is taking off.

I recently went from Pinto to Zetec and had a look at all the options. I discounted Megajolt as I don't have too much experience and wanted something that I could go back to the company on if I had problems.

In my opinion the Emerald system is the best, BUT I actually went for OMEX as it was cheaper. The reason for this is that if you are using Carbs (like me) then you don't need all of the functions of the Emerald and the OMEX is well up to the job. If I ever go injection then I will sell the OMEX and buy an Emerald (not sure that I ever will go injection as there's no real BHP benefit).

If you buy OMEX try Racline - they did me a good deal and give 10% discount to Tiger Owners ;O)

until we want to release a few mote horses ( and spend some money ) we used the stock Escort XR3i ECU ( 130bhp engine ) which was a doddle to wire in.

cheap at half the price!!!

we used the MKVI plastic intake manifold too to get around any height restrictions.

works a charm - dead steady idle, closed loop emitions, instant throttle response, fairly good mpg. lovely jubley

I've gone the stock ECU route as well, easier to do that I thought. My engine was out of a Mondeo so already had the lower plastic intake manifold.

Does seem to run well, though not SVAed yet so haven't had a good run yet.

Megasquirt with the EDIS mods is the way forward. Done a few of them now, mainly in FWD Fords, and they work brilliantly, especially considering the cost.
