SVA fail at Shrewsbury

Failed the SVA at Shrewsbury today, but quite enjoyable anyway! The testing staff were great and offered plenty of explanation during the test and suggestions for how to fix the faults.

Main issues:

Field of visibility of front lights - I was aware of this from other peoples experiences, but thought I was OK. Solution is to move the lights out & up. The brackets were home made so only me to blame!

Wheels protuding from vehicle planform - the alloys I have (TSW Razors) have spokes that protrude slightly from the rim. When the car is viewed from above, these are not covered by the front wings / rear arches. The pragmatic solution here seems to be to fit the old Sierra wheels for the re-test.

Minor things:

Rear brake flexis - need securing
Hand brake cable - needs a slight re route & securing to prevent possibility of fouling
Sticky pad style cable tie bases need replacing in a few places with a permanent fixing
Grub screws loose in rear shock spring adjuster
Split pins in nuts locking bias bar - should have remembered to change those doh!
Steering wheel - went with the Mountney item fitted as I couldn't find the horn push for the old Sierra item last night. The view here was that a Sierra wheel plus Sierra collapsible column constituted a complete 'system', but a 3rd party wheel and Sierra column didn't, and that an additional collapsible boss would be required. Also a pad to cover the middle would be required.
The 'improved' radius on the bottom of the dash didn't pass muster but now have a clear steer on how to do this
Under dash cover needed to prevent contact with the bracket used to mount the ECU & also steering colum mounts.

So not too bad, no major mechanical problems.

Took the car to DVLA for inspection, they will pre-process the paperwork now so when the SVA is passed I can complete the registration without having to take the car again.

So with a bit of luck should be sorted & re-tested next week

Thanks again to everyone for their advice

Andy

Bad news, but at least there isnt really anything major wrong! At least you know what you have to do to get it on the road.

Yep - all sounds straightforward, and all seem to go with the general view of SVA requirements. It appears that they were fair with you.

Soon be on the road - well done!

cheers,
David

Ox organises or has something to do with the Shropshire area MK Owners Group SMOG and I know there is a Lotus7ClubGB meet at the Gate pub at Bratton on the last Thursday of each month to which mainly LSIS/Westie owners in the area attend so its not only Caterhams. Ive been most months and will probably be there this month also
