Trigger Wheel location confirmation

Can i just check that my previous understanding is correct for fitting trigger wheel to Pinto?

To align trigger wheel:
1. Rotate engine clockwise till TDC mark and pulley are aligned.
2. rotate engine anticlockwise by exactly 90deg.
3. Detarmine suitable location for crank sensor.
4. Fit trigger wheel so that the missing tooth centre line is aligned to the crank sensor.

i got a 5.75" trigger wheel from triggerwheels.com. centre hole is 12mm so this can be drilled out to suit OD of pulley bolt, once bolted in position a dowel or cap head fitted to prevent the trigger wheel from spinning and losing timing (ill probs fit 2 180deg apart to keep the balance).

Cheers in advance,
Darren.

Did this last weekend. this presumes your engine turns clockwise looking from the front!
1. Mount Crank Sensor wherever it fits nicely
2. Set engine to TDC
3. Remove the tooth at the location 90deg after the sensor.

ie
crank sensor is at 9 o'clock, missing tooth will be at 12 o'clock
or
crank sensor is at 3 o'clock, missing tooth will be at 6 o'clock

clear as mud?

That confirms it, thanks. my description was based on the triggerwheels.com item that has the missing tooth already removed - hence the addition of turning the engine back 90deg then fitting wheel -1 to the sensor - same difference.

What i get confused with is definitions and advancing and retarding ignition and how this relates to engine turning....... but we'll not get into that!!
Now ive put my mind to it, to run right a pinto needs to be advanced. Megojolt is fitted at 90deg retarded but the software sets the advance from the TDC point, ie 90deg before just gives it some time to decide when to fire the spark.

Darren,

Your thoughts are correct. This is how I did it and mine works fine.

Still playing with maps though as I am slightly increasing advance progressively at certain points in the range before getting to a Rolling road.
I have just replaced the radiator as it was not up to the job so wil now gte on with fine tuning.
