Does the ecu compensate for no choke?
Bit of a noob question but my bog standard V6 Duratec used to have a throttle cable (obviously) and a fast idle cable coming from an actuator box of
some kind.
My new setup only has the throttle cable fitted and it ocurred to me that I might need something else to idle when cold. Does the ecu (an mbe item)
control the idle speed via the idle control valve or am I missing something?

Many MCU
have free pins and ports sow you can connect this kind of auxelery material.
The clue for you problem would haveing that box with cable and undo it a bit to see how it works.
then connect that to the mcu.
if your cpu isn´t able to do suchs kind of pins,
then you could add a extra cpu only to actuate that box on temperature input...
or go throttle bodies and just dump the hole manifold.. and do it with a temperature injection curve...
(temperature based enrichment)

Are you sure it had a fast idle actuator ? Could it have been cruise control ? Most EFI systems have an idle speed control valve to stabilise idle
speed and coolant temperature sensor so ECU can adjust the amount of fuel needed.

As an aside most also have an airconditioning compensation lead, ie turn on A/C and it speeds up the idle to cater for the extra load.
This can be useful if you have big electric fans to cool the engine and want to compensate for this load at idle

A few thing I hadn't even thought about there guys - ta very much.
The second cable may well have been from the a/c which was originally on the engine. So it looks as if I should be fine with just the throttle cable,
leaving the ecu to deal with any cold starting.
