IS this EDIS fit for purpose?
I went to the scrappy this morning and bought a whole heap of stuff - coil pack, EDIS and crank position sensor (£9-40p - result!).
The only shadow on this bright and glorious day is when I cleaned all the muck off the bits - the EDIS is all lumpy and bumpy instead of nice and
smooth.
I think that is is just corrosion of the aluminium case under the plastic coating - if so I can just clean it back and give it a quick
re-spray. Or is it a sign that the thing's knackered?
Any opinions gratefully received...
cheers,
David

yep they are alloy and the water gets under the paint and lifts it.
Sand it down and give it a couple of coats of paint.
The Mondeo ones tend to be cleaner as they are fitted high up just under the winscreen (automatics only ) where as escorts ect have them low down on
the inner wing.
If it is crap give us a shout as I have half a dozen. but I bet its fine.
If you lift the plastic lid you will see that they are full of some kind of jell that keeps the wet out. I have seen them in worser nick than that.

Ive also seen a lot like this , I had a particularly bad one and tested it and found it to be working, then cut it open and found some corrosion
inside where the gel was not coating some parts even then it still worked. Why not get a spare just in case if you have a cheap scrappy near you.My
scrapyard seems to be increasing the price of some parts that I buy regularly as i think they know I have a market for them.

Phew - thanks to all! I didn't want another 30-mile round trip to the scrappy.
Scraped it all off and, as expected, it was just aluminium oxide that had lifted the paint. Gave it a bit of attention with a wire hand brush and now
it's being painted.
cheers,
David
