MegaJolt serial cable
I've recently finished building a MegaJolt board, but haven't managed to communicate to my PC yet (but see note below).
I was going to connect using Hyperterminal, as recommended on the MJ website, to see if I have a basic connection - no joy there either.
My question was going to be - should I use a straight-through cable (pin 2 - pin 2, pin 3 - pin 3) or a null modem cable (pin 2 - pin 3 crossover)?
I'd still like an answer - even though I've just realised that the cable I've been testing with is the one used by my UPS to talk to
the PC, and only has pin 2 connected! Pin 3 is not connected... pillock...
Once I know, I can go out and get one tomorrow.

That sort of makes sense - a second opinion would be appreciated though (not that I disbelieve you though! )
cheers,

MIne is a straight through with all pins connected. Works fine. I think my mate said it was a mouse extension or something.
Make sure u use the java software that megatune installs. It wont work with the latest java. I know its obvious make sure its powered up.

I've just discovered that I have nearly all the bits to make my own cable - just need 1 plug cover from Maplins tomorrow.
I can try it both ways! (Oooer!)

And the answer is:
Straight-through cable (I lashed up a cable this arvo) using pins 1, 2, 3 and 7, with cable screen on pin 9.
I am now getting the right sort of responses from the circuit board when sent control characters from a Linux terminal emulator (picocom) as described
in the Megajolt help text.
This suggests that I've got my comms setup wrong (RXTX) and that's proving to be a real bar-steward.
BTW: If you're wondering why I'm using Linux - I only have a cr@ppy little laptop with Windoze, as I refuse to pay the MS licence fees for
4 separate computers! Oh - and Megajolt's setup program is supposed to work on Linux. Allegedly.
