Electric heated windscreens?

Hi folks,
I've heard tell of "caterham" electrically heated windcreens. Where can they be got (I'm assuming that caterham are not a cheap/friendly supplier to the locost scene) Mango - do you do these???
Furthermore - how many amps do they take (I have a BEC & it's winter etc,)
Seasonal felicitations to one and all
Bob

http://www.heatedwindscreen.com/ will do screens for virtually every car. Even old things like Mk1 Cortinas!

There is a minimum order quantity if its a new product, but if its a "normal" product then they'll even do discounts for group buys.

Don't know why the Caterham one isn't listed as I'm sure they've done it.

If you go to the Caterham online parts store, they are for sale on-line.

http://www.caterham.co.uk/onlinestores/index.htm

Doesn't seem to be any prereq to own a Caterham.

Not exactly Locost, but not as expensive as I'd have thought

I bought a screen from Caterham spares. I went for the unheated one though as it was cheaper and I'm fitting a heater anyway. They didn't ask if I had a Caterham (though I didn't go out of my way to say it was for a Locost)- in the past they have on occasions been a bit grumpy about selling to non Caterham owners... Worth a try though... Nice technology- the wires are so fine you can't see them unless you get up real close (almost magnifying glass territory)... Not sure on the ampage though- if its important I've got a cracked one I can power up and check the amps- not sure if the crack has split any of the heating wires though (might give an artifically low reading (or none at all if the wires are in series)....

I was lucky, got a Caterham windscreen (heated) and pillars for £40 off the 'blatchat' forum.
They come up quite often when people prep their cars for racing.
The heated screen is the easiest way to fulfil the demisting requirements of the SVA. Having installed it, tested it I confess I have never used it, to get mist you need a temp diference.
Wipers on both sides of the screen would be more practical.

Yup. Unless you're having a roof and side screens you're unlikely to need a demister..... But if you are, you're bound to need one. When it starts raining, by the time you get the roof up you'll be well soggy, then tucked away inside a cosy warm cabin it will soon get might misty otherwise!!!

Very interesting to see a body of opinion that no demist is needed on an open top locost. Well that solves my problem then - I'll just go 'no demist' 'cos I'm virually sure tha amps issue would fry my rect/reg. Wipers on the inside is something I'd considered, but an ice/scraper/squeegee within reach is probably much more practical. Thanks guys

I'd concur with the above. Fitted a heated screen on my locost 18 months ago - never used it!
