Puzzled by EDIS 4 connector

I have 2 EDIS-4 units ready for installation, each with their own connector (I'm only fitting one!). All the Megajolt instructions show a tacho outlet on pin 11, but both of my connectors are lacking a connector in this position. The EDIS units have a pin there, but it's not being used.

Should I be worried about this? After all, there are 2 other ways of attempting to get a tacho feed - the MJ connector and the coil outputs (via diodes).

I'd rather not go looking for another connector as I've been to 2 scrappies today, and I only found one car with the right kind of ignition system - it looks like the older cars are getting trashed ASAP instead of being left around the yards...

I think some people have used the edis output , I guess it should work with a Ford gauge ,but most seem to end up using either diodes or diodes+resistor from the coilpack.

So you probably will not need it , it did not work on my Skoda revcounter!!.

That's what I suspected - it's just that I'm about to wire everything up, and I don't want to waste time and effort putting in the wrong connector (especially as it's the biggest one...).

How have people arranged the 3 diodes? With a bit of circuit board, or just covered with heatshrink tube?

Bullets!

I cant remember exactly but I know I used some bullet connectors and sleeves so that if the revcounter components went down and messed up my sparks I could unplug them and still get home.

it's not a problem having that pin missing, it is missing on mine, i just connected the tacho to the white wire from the megajolt.

What make of tacho are you two using? If either is an electronic one from CA, Smiths or Greengauges then I'll be well chuffed...

i have drilled a 3mm hole through the top of my edis plug over where the wire should be, fed a wire through and attached a female pin into the plug. Works a treat.

It is possible to dismantle the plug and add an extra pin from a spare plug by drilling a hole in the backing piece. I have not seen many plugs with the tacho pin fitted so it wont be worth looking in the scrapyard.
I used the diode circuit but had a problem with the zener diode breaking down and causing a hard to trace missfire. I am using an old ford tacho and it wouldnt work from either the Megajolt or Edis output but I eventally got a usable signal from the pip signal on pin one of the edis , i just piggybacked onto the connection to the megajolt and it has worked fine ever since.

Whenever I have used the EDIS unit on MJ or MS installs I have left the pin on the EDIS unit and used the diode set up on the low tension side of the coil pack. Has always worked a treat. Diodes cost a grand total of 18p for all three from Maplins in town. I just solder and shrink wrap.

So you are dragging that crossflow into the twentieth century!
