Megasquirt Maps....

Need help, finally at a stage where I can start the Toyota 4age engine on the bench with the megasquirt but I haven't got a map suitable for it. Worse I can't find one on the net, does anyone have a very basic one that would get the engine running? 4 pot 16v, or do you think I would get away with zetec one even? Its a V3 squirt n' spark board I'm using on motor bike bodies......cheers. Oli.

Hithere,
are you using the VAST ignitors or directly firingthe coil? Are you using the original CAS sensor or something else?

Forgive my ignorance but what is a CAS sensor?? And whats the difference with firing the coil? I'm just going to be using a ford coil (ie. batch fired) and have what I assume to be two switched earths one for each side.....but not too sure of the technicality. Thats great that the Avon is running guys! Will have to pop down the road sometime and have a look! Oli.

Hi there,
a CAS is the cam angle sensor, the MR2 4AGE may have a 24 toothed cam sensor with a 1 or 2 pulse under neath it. How have you connected this? Without this info I cant supply you with a base map. If your intention is to use a ford coil pack then you will need to use the 24 toothed cas and proabbly cut a pair of teeth off it at 180deg apart, unless you have a 36-1 mounted on the crank?

Phil, cheers for the info. I'm not using the cam sensor. I've mounted a 36-1 tooth wheel to the front of the crank to keep things relatively simple....Cheers Oli.

OK, what tooth lines up with the sensor at TDC and are you driving the coil directly from the ECU, so youll have 2 x VB921's inside there with a coil pack,

Yes there are two VB921's in the squirt driving the coil. I've got the sensor setup as on my megajolt'd pinto ie. leading edge of first tooth after the missing one is 90 degrees beore TDC with engine rotation. I'm positive that is all setup up right is I did the same with it as with my megajolt. Just no idea how to program a map into the megasquirt and how to run with a squirt n' spark through megatune.....very confusing.....just too many things to change. I really just need a map to get me going at which point I will be able to use a wide band sensor and or have it rolling roaded....Cheers Oli.

Great thread - I'm in the same position with Megasquirt-It's replacing Megajolt, and i'm a little unclear as to how write the first base map.....

It's not installed yet, but I've done most of the wiring, and am just getting to grips with Megatune.....

Hi there,
can you confirm then that tooth 8 aligns with the sensor at TDC (as thats what I calculated it to be from your info) its so much easier just to know what tooth the sensor is looking at at TDC then you can enter the info into this file here:
http://www.extraefi.co.uk/software/wheeldecoder.xls

All you then need to do is use the Zetec_NB.msq file thats in my download files:
http://www.extraefi.co.uk/software/Config_Files.zip
I have attached the Zetec msq set for your sensors position. Please check that though, as usually its aligned with tooth 9 on a 4cy at TDC. The files attached are for 029y4 code, available here with MegaTune all set up for it:
http://www.msextra.com/manuals/Downloads/Megatune_Extra_Installer.exe

Thanks. Not had a chance to work out which tooth the sensor is reading but I'm absolutely a million percent sure that its however your told to do it in the instructions for both squirt and jolt. It took me ages to work it out with my megajolt but it worked first time....Thanks. Oli.
