Some fuel pump questions for FI R1 engine?
I'm have a 5VY R1 engine and have some questions concerning the fuel pump -
1) Is the R1 fuel pump the best to use ?
2) Is it an in-tank pump ?
3) How have people installed it ?
4) What other pumps are suitable ?
Cheers,
Kosmo.

The R1 pump is an in tank pump in that it fits in the bottom from the outside. MK do a weld on flange adapter for your tank for it to fit into.
It is fine for your engine as it will supply the correct pressure for the fuel rail.
I am using a kawasaki ZX6R pump just because it was offered to me. I checked that it is the right pressure range and has the same cut off pressure
first though.

1) Yes
2) Yes (mostly!)
3) Welded a flange to the bottom of their ali tanks and bolted the pump to it
4) None of interest as the R1 pump is far more suitable

If I use the R1 pump does that mean I dont need a swirl pot ?
If I dont go for the R1 pump can I still use the regulator on the fuel rail ?

Yes and yes.
You need to design your baffles in the tank to ensure that the fuel is around the pump as the fuel will slosh back and forth.
The fuel regulator is there to ensure the correct pressure is maintained on the injectors. Removing it is a bad idea.

The RAW tank has a built in swirl pot, so I think I'm going to go for it with external pump, bosch or similar....
Thanks again for all the advice.
