Is it possible to find an owner of a Car

Hi

Is it possble to find out who currently own's an old Car I use to own.

I have checked the ASKMID.com web page and it is on the database correctly.
Unlike my DAX.
That's a Reliant Robin. Great
I Think I need to talk to my insurance Co. on that one.
I guess that's what you would expect from one of our Goverment run Databases.

In theory, no, it shouldn't be possible due to data protection laws. That being said if it's something rare for example you may be able to track them down via an owners club.

P.S. It's not actually a gov database. It's run by the motor insurers bureau which is a PLC. The reason they can be wrong sometimes is an insurer will only have standard cars in their database so they tend to pick any off the system and overwrite it on their screens, but this will still be on the backoffice tapes.

At work we used to apply to DVLA for registered keeper details by sending a cheque for £2.50 to DVLA before we got a subscription. While I would expect that there would be some restriction on its use I did once see on back that a private individual obtained himself. It may therefore be possible (which is a scary thought).

The Motor Insurers Bureau isn't a PLC (public limited company) although it is a limited company.

You can apply to the DVLA for a name and address, but you need a good reason, AFAIK a hit and run will do, but I don't know of any other reason they deem important enough...
