Im going EFI

I've decided to go down the EFI route using the original ford plastic inlet system on my 1800 blacktop. I have read somewhere that you can use the ford ecu as well anyone got more info on this or should i go for MSnS.

this is exactly what i have done.

i used the EFi system from a 1992 escort - the wiring is very much sell contained. I then used a 1.8 / 2.0 plastic manifold with 2lt throttle body and replaced all the wiring on the manifold with the wiring from the silver escort metal inlet manifold.

the last thing i did was to buy a 1800 fiber glass plenum from westfield to feed the air from the air filter to the throttle body.

N.B. I had to have my chassis slightly altered in the engine bay in order to give room for the manifold. I had the triangulation brace moved back by 4 cm in order to give room.

for the tank, i used a mondeo fuel pump and modded it to give the right length.

ask any questions you want. its a good cheap choice.

I followed a few pointers from ^^ and its a "locost" option for sure.

Its very easy to get running if its a pre pat's ecu.

instead of the westfield plenium you can find budget boy-racer induction kits on ebay that will get rid of the bulk.

The only thing I dont like is the plastic inlet manifold.

I don't reckon you would be a fiddler if you fitted the MSnS. You would just want it to run properly.
That being the case, I would be tempted to go with the lads advice above.

That's much more fit and forget, don't you reckon ?

only thing you should make sure is that you don't have a PATS enabled ECU. Don't think escorts had PATS, but not sure about that.

All Ford models got the Pats at some point.

Passive Anti Theft system

PATS is Ford Motor Company's passive anti theft system. The keys for these vehicles have a tiny radio frequency transponder imbedded in the Key.

When you attempt to start the vehicle, the ecu sends out an RF signal that is picked up by the transponder in the key. The transponder then returns a unique RF signal to the vehicle's computer, giving it the ok for the vehicle to start and continue to run. This all happens in less than a second, and is completely transparent to the vehicle operator.

Early models didnt get this so its just a case of conecting the lives ande earths.

escorts/orions up to 1995 did not have PATS integrated as far as im aware.

So if you get the key as well can you use a PATS ECU?

Think you also need the barrel and some other stuff for it then. Wouldn't try it, just get one without.
