Comparing IRS and Dedion
clutch_kick - 8/12/08 at 03:34 PM

I need some educated opinions on the pros and cons of IRS rear and Dedion.

If anyone actually has first hand knowledge of the Dax Rush MC dedion setup, even better ... thanks

Are you wanting a comparison between IRS and De Dion Rushes? Because the Rush MC is only available with De Dion rear suspension.

Heres info on the De Dion: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De_Dion_tube

The fact the Duncan's Rush gets round tracks so quickly would probably indicate its not a limiting factor especially with CCAR fitted. IRS is extremely good at dealing with situations where camber and elevation is different on different wheels (i.e. when 4x4ing) however its positive effect is less clear on smooth road/track surfaces.

Dax will do 'special' ones if you pay for it and hassle them enough
just look at the 3 round tube camber comp. CEC chassis (basically a heavy gauge BEC chassis)

they made one or two IRS ones with CC&AR front and rear (Andy Stirlings old car ?), but I then decided that DeDion was the way to go

you best bet is to phone them and ask to speak to Peter or Gary.

Not really. I'm stuck in a dilemma between buying an unbuilt dax Rush kit that is already in Malta, or ordering a new Kit from MNR (something i always wanted).

The dedion was used by caterham till very recently

They still use it on every Caterham model with the exception of the CSR.

There's a lot of debate on Blatchat as to whether the CSR suspension is any good... no one complains about the de-dion!

Having driven the "roads" in Malta my advise would be to go for the IRS set up. De-dion is pretty much just the same as a live axle, and has the same characteristics, (sp), great on a nice flat track, not so good on "very" bumpy roads. And yes I do know they have improved some of the roads out there, but on a scale of 1 to 10 they haven't hit 1 yet, :-) Cheers Ray
