MS1 or 2???
Jasongray5 - 31/12/09 at 02:50 PM

Hi guys, getting closer to the day when I will need to buy my ECU,
Problem is, i dont know which version of megasquirt to get?
Im going to be running a 1.8 blacktop on ITB'a, with a wideband, upgrading to a 2.0 some time in the future?
I know MS1 is perfectly capable of running this, and that half the features of ms2 will never be used, but I quite fancy the higher resolution maps, and larger RAM?

So would appreciate your opinions.

Jason

Look to the future.

If you can afford it, go for MS2 V3.0

You might not use the features just yet, but im guessing that as you gain confidence in it, you will want to!

Id just go for what you want straight off, nothing worse than finding out later on that you need someting that MS1 can't provide and have to upgrade again!

For the majority of installs all MS2 offers is addtional resolution on the VE and spark tables (16x16 instead of 12x12)

The other additions were mainly additional support for more OEM decoders.

Think im going to go with 2 as its got abit better resolution!

You only need a MS1....it will be much simpler to setup, cheaper and it more than capable of running what you need.

I run a 2.0lt Zetec with Jenveys, LC1 & 285 Piper cams and it works fine on a MS1

What code are you running MSnSE with 12x12 tables? Presumably you're using AlphaN?

I have a 2L zetec silver top on TBs and MS1 and have been considering the upgrade before visiting the RR. Only covered 2k miles since build and not had the time to tweak the tuning really.

MSExtra 029y (I think)...which ever the latest MSExtra code is.

I found the injector and spark test facility on MSII extra very useful...Not sure if this is available on MS1....

Going for the lastest model my future proof yourself a little....

Are you runnning Alpha_N or SD mode? Always good to hear about somebodies experiences if they have a system running really well.

Alpha_N.

MTech originally fitted the system with the Jenveys but I've tweaked it for the new cams. Wasted spark rather than EDIS as well.

I have MS1 and so am aware of that the grass is greener...

Presently I'm running the hi-res (higher temporal resolution) version of the 29y4 Extra code, and now have added sparking.

It does work, but I think it would work better with MS2. The benefits of MS2 are:
Blended acceleration enrichment (TPS and MAP)
Faster processor (36-1 trigger wheel fails above 14000rpm)
Easier to program (not assembler)

The disadvantage of MS2 is that it is harder to make and a bit more expensive.

You can upgrade MS1 with an MS2 daughter board.

MS3 has now been launched which allows almost everything, but at higher cost.
