Just a quick question!

Should the dipped beam only operate when the side lights are turned on, at the moment we have 3 switches and can switch the dipped on without the side lights being on, thus having no rear lights on.

Also, should the dipped remain on with the main lights on, i'm sure it says in the SVA book that they should (but it's an old book!)

side lights should be on with dipped beam. what switches are you using? can you get a double pole switch for the dipped (so you put a feed for side lights through it too? this would still keep both circuits seperate.

as for whether dipped and main should be on the same time, that depends on the bulb. i assume you'd use normal lights that go on 7s, so H4 bulb? in which case dipped should go off when main comes up or you could overheat the bulb

you way you described was how i originally planned mine. but i found a toggel switch with off-on(1)-on(1+2) to save a lot of bother

We have 3 switches (side/dipped/main) but didn't want the dipped to be able to be switched on without the sides being on, so we piggy backed the switched +ve from the side light switch to provide the positive feed to the dipped switch

We are using savage switches and the standard MNR loom

you could do that

12v+ ---- side light switch------- side lights
........................................L____dipped switch----- dipped lights


something like that? ignore the '.......' though
