Hi everybody!
I've just come home from working in north London for a couple of weeks. During the travel to and from work I noticed that some busses had round
tail lights and indicators with LED instead of ordinary light bulbs. Does anybody know the exact diameter and where these can be bought?
Regards, Mats
Donnu. But I lve the tail lights too. Particually if you look carefully there are arrows in the indications and stop written in the brake lights. Great engineering, probably tax payers money somehow though!
There was a thread a couple of weeks ago about this, I think in the end Jon Ison got some LED lights from Stafford Vehicle Components. Try ringing
them to see what range they do 01827-67714
Gordon
Premier Wiring do them aswell.
Whoever you get them from I think they're gonna cost you best part of £150 though!
There's a guy here (Graceland) who works on buses- reckons the bus ones are unreliable (and 24v!). If I recall correctly.
Cheers,
James
Yes not cheap, think they are Hella ones, look the business too if you can justify the cost, check out Helfires website, thay had to fabricate a
spacer to to space the lights out an inch from the rear arch so the back of the lights didnt foul the tyre.
Graceland............pah, only a kid and doesnt know much about anything..........or so i have heard
unfortunately I work for the psv company First, I'll ask the store to have a hunt around for suppliers.
I'll also enquire at Transbus ( the manufacturer of most london buses ) there is a good chance that i'll come up with the bus group
supplier, it may take a couple of weeks.
Will post as soon as i have detail.
Regards
Ewan
Have a look in Februarys section of our build diary. We searched everywhere for LED's and even considered making our own at one point. These were
the best and most suitable we could find for the purpose. Spacers were required however, because to sit the LEDs flush on the rear arch would have
required a hole about 90mm dia and the connectors would foul on the rear tyre.
Definitely worth the hassle though IMHO
search the old LED string, there was some pics posted too, can't remember cost but i wount of spent £150 on lights i can assure you..........or
did i, hope not.

bus ones 24v and unreliable when on buses.
not a bit of good for 12 volt systems mind,
only unreliable due to the hammering they get - 16 hours a day on the road in constant use - think you'd get tired aswell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the 24v bus one's are also on the McLaren F1 trailers!
Only an additional resistor is needed to convert as the current is very low.
I have visited Optare Bus Co. and I've been informed they sell them but convert them yourself...
ATB
sVc about to be getting some 94 mm LED lights - 12v "E" marked similar to the crystalights that fit into the carbon fibre effect
housings.
Piccies on web pages B4 the end of this week @ bits on show at Stafford over the weekend

Any prices ?
We have got the same ones as Jon, got them from SVC too. Noticed that street ka has a white middle and chrome ring in as the reverse light in the middle. Bit more credible though, the new porsche carrera GT uses the same leds outer rings on the back.
