Can't get the Horn!
55ant - 11/9/09 at 07:12 PM

evening all,

silly q, i have a removable steering wheel like so many others. now, i have the indy's MOT coming up and no horn?

how has everyone else dealt with this? just chucked a switch on the dash? i was thinking of using the washer jet button on the end of the wiper stalk, its a tad useless without a windscreen.

cheers, ant

I've got a set of Escort stalks, horn on the left, washer on the right as I do have a windscreen. I can't see any reason why what you want to do should be a problem.

i did the same on my old indy, its fine for MOT, but you need to have a horn sticker covering the washer logo.

No don't do it. Put the horn switch on the dash and connect up a temporary washer system - see if you can get the MOT guy in the face

sva guy was happy with a non working button in center of wheel, and tiny unmarked push button on the dash dunno for iva though

Is it one of them things if its not fitted you don't have to have it working?

BenB - 11/9/09 at 09:14 PM

No, you have to have a working horn....

RoadkillUK - 11/9/09 at 09:21 PM

We put a pushbutton on the dash for ours ....

.... wait, we had a Sierra wheel on for SVA, pushbutton was post SVA.

Never mind, carry on.

No!
Next thing will be that legally treaded tyres are also needed for IVA!

Back to the OP!!
Am I reading your question right? Are you asking if it is ok to have a button on the dash for a horn? If that is the case than yes. If you want to connect it to a stalk than you can but you dont have to. Its in reach and works, job done!!

If you want to know how to connect it to a stalk, use a multimeter on the unused wires, simples

If you are using Ford stalks, I've found in the garage a left hand one with a horn button on the end. Yours for free if you come and pick it up.

hi all, cheers for the response, im not bothered about where it is, push button is easy as i have one lying around and the two horn wires are easy to get to. i was really asking if anyone had a set up that worked with the removable wheel (as in button on the wheel) and if so how you can wire this in?
thanks for the offer of the stalk but i'll just check a push button on the dash, i have a new dash to put in over winter so this is just tempory, need to get it through its mot, anbyone have a MOT list?
