What alternators do people normally use?
I want something compact and lightweight but in typical locost fashion it also needs to be cheap!
What donor cars came with suitable alternators?
I guess that depends on what engine you have and what kind of pulley is on it too
btw a 35amp one is more than enough for a 7, you don't need a 80amp monster
its a t5 volvo engine which came with a monster 110A alt that weighed as much as the titanic. I think it was a 6pk belt that was on it, so 4, 5 or 6 would be fine on the alt.
I'm using a nippon denso off a suzuki swift. Came with a three groove pulley. Was going to look around for a wider four, five or six groove
pulley as it's on a zetec engine which has a six groove pulley on the crank. Bought a six groove belt from Halfords, cut it in half yielding two
belts, each with three grooves and its done two years including trackdays and sprints with no belt problems. Still have my 'free' spare
belt.
Diahatsu charade is similar as are most far east small cars.

Denso again,
Ive had two from daihatsu fourtrak's at a tenner ago. 15 mins to take one of.
Lucas as fitted to most early fords are a bit chunkier but as good as anything.
Mitsubishi colt, some carina's impteza have small alternators.
I've got this one on Ebay if it's any good
