erratic speedo
kendo - 4/10/09 at 07:56 AM

when accelerating my speedo seems to stick slightly at about 35ish then hop up to 40 odd then continue to sweep cleanly until around 50 then does the same again.

It is a new speedo from greengauges < caerbont aka smiths> and I am using an inductive sensor <didn't fancy sticking on magnets> mounted on the diff to count the bolts on the prop flange. Max gap for the sensor is 2.5mm but i've set it at 1mm.

Any thoughts on how to get a consistant reading? SVA no.3 tomorrow

its the sensor bracket rigid ? or is it vibrating ?
try opening up the gap a bit

i had the same sorta problem
it wouldnt read over 35mph
mine was set up on the driveshaft, i tryed it reading the driveshaft bolts and that didnt work so i then made a ring with teeth on it and that didnt work at all,
i have changed to an electric speedo drive on the type nine cable drive output and is as smooooooth as silk now, was the best money i have spent.

Are you using a sensor with two wires, or one with three (power, ground, signal out).
The two wire ones are probally incompatable.

I've got a 3 wire type.

At a guess i would say the problem is the sensor still sees metal instead of the prop bolts only, a tooth wheel should give better results.
