Hi,
I have just wired up the EDIS unit in the car to the MS1 extra.
When I crank the car I hear the fuel pump prime. On the megatune I see an RPM (about 235 RPM) and can see the injectors being pulsed.
When I put a timing light on the HT leads it does not flash - I am assuming I am no getting a spark to the plugs.
I have tried 2 edis units and 2 coil packs now!
Can anyone please help?
Thanks
Frank
I though the edis unit was the coilpack?
no.
the EDIS is a black plastic rectangle containing the electronics - see above- labelled EIDIS
the coil pack is a big block to which the 4 plug leads connect - above the EDIS.
you need to check that the coil pack is working - if you remove the plugs - helps eninge turn over easier) and leave on engine so the thread is
earthed, do you see spark at all?
if not, then you need to see if the EDIS is swicthing the coils - in theory you can test the coils by

does ms1 support edis??
Ahh I see now - all this electrickery sounds confusing - give me carbs and a dizzy anyday lol
Hi,
Yes, the ms1 Extra can handle the edis unit you have to make some internal mods.
The wiring seems pretty simple
Are there any checks I can do - how can I test the vr sensor -
Thanks
Frank
What I would do
Check you have 12v at EDIS AND coilpack in crank position as well as ign on!
(V easy to get wrong!)
If megatune recognises its going into crank mode and showing an RPM -then you have inadvertantly already checked the VR sensor, and ruled it out
surely?
(if its wired the same as mine - Squirty gets RPM info from EDIS- which gets it from the VR)
I would also think that EDIS has voltage - otherwise Megatune would also not recognise crank mode as it wouldnt get pulses from EDIS without
voltage??
I would just check you have 12v at coilpack and EDIS with ignition in crank as well as run position
then look to check the wiring between EDIS and coilpack has continuity and is wired 100% right

How do you test this?

To test you will need one 12v bulb with wire "tails" or multimeter set to volts DC and a voulenteer to turn the key into various
positions
Stuff one wire of bulb onto middle coilpack connector (from EDIS) and other to chassis (this should either light the bulb or show 12v on multimeter
with ignition key in both run and crank positions)
HTH
Also would take plugs out and lay them on the engine somewhere metal and see if there is a spark when cranking first..but assumed you would have done
this ??

where in the world are you ? if local I can give you a hand.
I live in Flitwick - a couple of miles from J12 and 13 of the M1
Thanks
Yeh not a million miles but not local either.
The edis will fire the coil pack with out being conected to the megasquirt at 10 deg btdc.
If your not getting any spark, first thing to check is the crank pick up sensor plug wiring is the correct way around.

Hi,
Just tried with a spark plug no spark
Will turn the wires around on the vr sensor to see what happens .....
