Hi All,
I dry fittefd the engine today and found my alternator is fouling the steering column.
Whats the smallest alternator available for a CEC?
currently have a ford type (like xflow)
needs to have three wire cnnection or i'll get confused.
many thanks
I'm using one from a Daihatsu hijet
Likewise, I'm using the Nippon Denso alternator from a daihatsu. about 90mm diameter iirc. Had to make a bracket, and use the shortest belt
halfrauds do, but it works nicely enough...
I think there's some stuff in my blog on making it fit.

the Daihatsu ones are about the smallest without starting to pay silly money, I have a ford one fitted to a zetec silvertop. why do you need a small one
can you swap the alt over to the other side of the engine?
cheapest option would be to move alternator to other side, assuming you can fit the mounting bracket to the block.
otherwise the dahaitsu or kubota (same thing) alternator is the smallers

The zetec posed the same problem with the downlink and the oil filter so I added another UJ to the column, mate of mine runs a silvertop and has located his alternator on the opposite side of the block
I used one of these .........

Got it for £76
and they provide wiring details

Locost option is to remake the bracket so it don't foul

Had a 1.1 saxo alternator on my pinto.... plenty of them in breakers yards.
