Have i Buggered my megajolt??????
lotusmadandy - 29/10/09 at 05:02 PM

Guy's,

I think i may have goosed my jolt when wiring it up.I cannot check if it is working
as i don't yet have a cable to plug into
the pc.
What concern's me is the fact that i cannot
get a tacho signal from the jolt or the edis.
when i checked the wiring diagramme it says to connect the TPS earth to the ground wire
on the jolt,i have connected all the ground wires to an earth terminal.
If i have fried it can it be repaired?

Please help,it was all going so well

Ive got no experience with megajolt/squirt/etc but if you have fried it you will probably have only fried the odd component or two. Get out your multimeter and a battery (a 5v battery and a 12v) and get diagnosing. Be logical, methodical and meticulous and you should be able to find the component(s) that need replacing. just hope its not the main processor but youll usually find its a transistor, resistor or a regulator thats gone.

Again this isnt from mega() experience just from experience of frying boards at work. If you understand how the board is meant to work then you should be able to diagnose the problem...

Cheers

You should be ok, all the grounds end up at the same place anyway, there is only one ground.

I'd start again and thoroughly check each connection, I did similar, even grounded both ends of the cable shields, which is a big no no due to eddy currents being created and interfering.

Mine works fine, no hint of a problem once I'd undone the boo boo's

I would wait until you have a wire to connect to your pc. Then start by just powering the megajolt up with a 9v battery and check it talks to the pc.

The tacho signal can be a pain to sort out.

What/when do you mean no tacho signal?

The MJ doesn't give a tacho during cranking!!!

only when it's running you will get a tacho signal.

if you find that you have blown it i can repair it for you at the cost of the parts.

Panic is over guy's, my mate Coozer
came over straight away with his laptop
and multimeter.

I had wired the TPS up the wrong way around but everything else was fine.
The tacho feed from the jolt is putting the signal out,the problem is that my
vapour doesnt recognise the output.

Not worry though,i can always buy a
52mm tacho to fit under the aeroscreen

A BIG thanks to Coozer for coming over
and many thanks for all the advice from
everyone else.

By the way Ash, i will keep the offer in mind for future reference.

If you can find someone with a portable oscilloscope (I had one but someone borrowed it and they leant it to someone who leant it to someone else....) you can make quite a simple trigger circuit which will take the jolt output and condition it for the Veypour thingy.... It might take a bit of trial and error the find the signal type that the digidash requires but can't be that complicated!
