L&G,
I'm gradually gathering bits to fit MJ in place of the ESCII in my MK. I have EDIS, coil pack and VR sensor.
I've just been looking for a TPS on ebay: I presume the TPS is just a straight pot so can be sourced from pretty much any vehicle (alternative
interpretation - will any 0.99p unit be OK?)
Also, re. Trigger wheels...
I have a dual-belt crank/alt/pump (Pinto 2L) setup. What's the recommended TW to use?
Aiming to pick up a MJ V4 at the Exeter show in a few weeks time to complete the parts gathering.
TIA,
John.
I think they are all similar (basically about 5k resistance, with 3 connectors). You could take along a meter, to check it does what you expect.
You want a TPS that is spring loaded (this removes any chance of slop in the mechanism). I think most modern vehicle ones are sprung (I just swapped
one out that wasn't).
Normal "maplin" potentiometers suffer when they get wet, but you know this.
Don't forget to get both the connector and the plug from the wiring loom when you source this.
You knew all this but once I started typing it seemed easier to carry on!
Matt
I used a standard TPS from a zetec engine I had to modify the section that turns to attach it to a set of webbers. I bougt some polymorph off the bay of e to do this. MAde a simple bracket to hold it job done.
Thanks, guys.
I'm looking at one from an Escort 5/6. I will have to make up the mechanical connection from the spindle as I have a non-standard (unique) setup
with twin SUs but I can cope with that!
What is polymorph? Will have a sniff on ye bay.
John.
I bought a trigger wheel from triggerwheel .com but to be honest whilst they do specific wheels for Crossflows and V8's none of the generic
wheels are quite right for the pinto, either to small or the right size but with not enough body to weld or bolt to the crank pully.
The VR sensor from them was fine as was the mini timer plug and the shielded cable was excelent

Thanks 02!
I'll have a measure up and try Martin...
John.
TPS arrived today. It is a 5K pot and spring-loaded. Not bad for £2.61 inc P&P!
John.
I liked that Polymorph idea. But, it melts at around 60deg, isn't that going to be bit boarder-line in a hot engine-bay after a long run? I
know the air temp gets to 20deg C above ambient in mine even when on the move.
Just a concern,
Matt
